Throughout 2020, Lanier Library has been celebrating its 130th Anniversary. As a highlight of the year, two concrete footings were installed on Thursday 10/8 in preparation for the next 130 years and a commemorative virtual event later this month. One concrete footing is on Chestnut Street overlooking the parking lot; the other, on Melrose Avenue.
Mayor J. Alan Peoples is readying a proclamation to be read on Thursday, 10/22 at an unveiling ceremony to be recorded on video and saved to Facebook and our website for later viewing. Jenny Purtill, Library Executive Director, is readying a time capsule to be buried at the same time. Contents will preserve memories of 2020 to be shared in 2065 when the future Executive Director will excavate the capsule on the 175th Anniversary.
